Season BUBBLECAN Review: Knuckle Heads Season Two

The only original adult animated comedy series that Canada really had to show in 2016.

Talk about a stark contrast in seasons, eh? This time last year, the adult animation boom in Canada was in full swing. Shows like Night Sweats, 2 Nuts and a Richard, Fugget About It, and Knuckle Heads were showcasing a slightly different take on the industry but certainly showcasing talents and ideas that you really don’t see on American television. Nowadays, save for first-run seasons of Archer, once-reliable networks like Teletoon at Night and Adult Swim Canada have relegated the networks to that of just homes for syndicated programming that has already aired here in America, and the up-and-coming BiteTV died a slow and painful death.

So, is the second season of Knuckle Heads the last of it? I hope not, because this show is certainly a great example of quality programming that comes from up north. Clearly, it seems, that the entire show was supposed to premiere a lot earlier as the show wrapped its second season with a Halloween episode and early on we got a two-parter which is usually reserved for finales or premieres. And while the show certainly didn’t showcase anything to the nth degree in terms of story arcs or serialization as say a BoJack Horseman or South Park, the finale was a nice “wrap” that made you do a lot of, “Hey, it’s THAT guy from earlier in the season!” which is always fun.

I do think it was odd that we got quite a few “end of the world” scenarios from Knuckle Heads Season Two. Week after week, we were getting invaded by vampires or zombies or the Four Horsemen. With that said, I like this show a lot! It’s funny, the animation is unique, and the characters are friggin’ adorable…even the scary ones!
