Review: World Break: Aria of Curse for a Holy Swordsman “Surpass Two Lives”

wb ep 12

Outside of Death Parade, the finales of this batch of Broadcast Dubs have been passable. World Break: Aria of Curse for a Holy Swordsman, however, delivered on all fronts. World Break has been really bumpy in the last few weeks, but that hasn’t stopped the finale from delivering a crescendo that hasn’t been seen in quite a while. So, instead of looping around the same thing over and over, let’s just get into it.

The finale actually put peril in front of Moroha, and it suspended the belief for a moment that Moroha would fail, and everything that Moroha loved would be destroyed. Hell, even Satsuki and Shizuno were turned to stone, and Elena was torched. It was enough to make Moroha lose control and go into a blood rage, that would have destroyed the entire city by himself.

In the end, we got exactly what we were expecting from the first minutes of “The Reincarnator.” This fight was everything I was expecting from that moment, and then some. The Ancient Dragon was exactly what I was expecting, as well, and I got everything I wanted from this final fight. There was suspense, great action, and there was enough to make me want to suspend belief. There was that feeling of accomplishment when Moroha overcame his blood rage, and was able to combine both past lives’s powers into a super being.

World Break definitely delivered on the best of the series. When the show wasn’t trying to be an exhibition of oversexed, hormone addicted sex addicts, the story was awesome, and “Surpass Two Lives” was the perfect microcosm. The story came and shined through, with vibrance that I can only equate to the ending of Gundam Wing. There is a definitive end that, if warranted, could leave the book open for a season two. Unlike Death Parade, this can definitely benefit. This was a great ending to a very good season.
