Review: Triumph’s Election Special 2016

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart was largely launched into the stratosphere as a result of the 2000 election. It was a time of such crazy uncertainty in America as two Presidential candidates were dead-locked in a battle to see whom would be the leader of the free world. It didn’t even matter who won the election, because Jon Stewart became a star that would over the next 15 years change the face of how political coverage is done. Last year, Jon Stewart retired from Daily Show, and I’m not quite sure anyone has really stepped up to the plate to be that next figure head to really discern the bull shit from the other bull shit when it comes to American politics…until now.

His name, is Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. Back from dead after his brilliant sitcom was cancelled on Adult Swim last year despite being ordered for 20, Triumph’s Election Special is exactly the thing we need to give us what Jon Stewart no longer does. Over the course of the almost 90-minute special exclusive to Hulu, Triumph is able to get on both sides of the political aisle and cover some of the election’s most important story lines. From the in depth preparations of Chris Christie’s bathroom antics, to Mike Huckabee’s training as a top-flight debate practitioner, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog makes sure to zero in on all of the candidates that are not only out of the race, but are still trying to convince America that they are the ones to vote for no matter how many times they give the same speech.

Not only does Triumph take on the election dick on, but he also drops by colleges and picks the brains of politically correct elitist motherfuckers which is great counterweight to the other end of the spectrum, that being the hilarious interviews with some of America’s most gullible. A lot of work was put into this special and it shows. From Triumph hiring fake reporters, to getting a bus for the sole purpose of following the Ted Cruz Greyhound on the back roads of the country, and the utter brilliance of hiring Tim Meadows as Ben Carson that goes over so well “Ben” gets to sing the national anthem at Iowa State, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog is exactly what today’s election coverage sorely needs…a sniff in the crotch.
