Review: The Gorburger Show “Gorburger’s Secret”

It’s no secret how good this show is.

The Gorburger Show episode “Gorburger’s Secret” opens with a small segment “The Beforeburger Show.” In this, Chris Hardwick introduces Gorburger (T.J. Miller) and explains that he has an exclusive clip of the Gorburger clip. I enjoy Hardwick’s presence as a guest, especially with how it’s structured.

“Gorburger’s Secret” features guest, Larry King. It’s hilarious watching the prolific King, especially with his deadpan delivery. “Do people call you Gor?” he asks matter of factly. While Gorburger states that he will not divulge this information, he proceeds to offer, “You can call me Gor. You can call me Gorbs. You can call me Burger. You can call me GB.  You can call me G-Man. You can call me Gorbie Burgies. You can call me Gorbaby. You can call me Gorhoney. You can call me Gorsweetie. You can call me Gorpie.”

It’s moments like this which make The Gorburger Show a masterpiece. The juxtaposition between the serious interview style of King and Gorburger’s over-the-top banter are fantastic. “Why am I here in Tokyo?” King wonders. As Gorburger explains, he drugged King, brought him for the show, and once they’re finished he’ll drug King and send Larry back.

Features differ slightly. Rather than the games found on other episodes, “Gorburger’s Secret” includes a segment where there’s an inventor’s corner. Later he visits a junkyard. But throughout the episode, there’s a subplot featuring Gorburger’s quest to win the lottery. As the show progresses, Gorburger shows off everything he purchased on credit. Which is a lot.

The Gorbuger Show has been on point since its inception. “Gorburger’s Secret” is riotously funny, and it’s probably my favorite Larry King video since that time he went out for chicken and waffles with Snoop Dogg. Additionally, the musical guests continue with Danny Brown and HEALTH. This further lampoons the talk show vibe. Running gags like Gorburger Show employees dying off during the episode recur. I’m curious to see whether these remain as canon, as well as if Gorburger’s set is still sparse after his credit-purchased goods are repossessed.

Another excellent The Gorburger Show entry, this time with one of its best guests.
