Review: Spongebob Squarepants “No Pictures, Please; Stuck on the Roof”

Could you take my picture, Cause I won’t remember

Overview(Spoilers Below)

No Pictures, Please

Patrick takes a hat that belongs to a bus driver that runs the Bikini Bottom tours for your out of towners and acts as a tour guide for an interested visitor looking to take in the sights and sounds. This includes stops at various restaurants, homes, and a graveyard. The journey goes well, but the duo cause so much trouble that the town gets annoyed but the tourist disappears before any action can be taken.

Stuck on the Roof

Spongebob gets stuck on the roof of the Krusty Krab so he decides to just make it a go of staying up there forever. It’s not too bad either, he misses work so Spongebob decides to build a rooftop operation to feed the customers. When it rains, Spongebob builds another Krusty Krab on top of the existing Krusty Krab which then squishes the original building and gets Spongebob on level ground.

Our Take

One of the best assets of Spongebob Squarepants is in the art direction of the character designs. Because of Spongebob’s shape, he makes for really intricate and borderline crazy routines that most characters wouldn’t dare to try. This was best put on display during “Stuck on the Roof” as Spongebob was constantly building his crazy structure. And yet, I think my favorite scene was when Squidward was being attacked by Spongebob’s finger puppets. If you’re a die-hard fan of Patrick, then “No Pictures, Please” is for you because it’s allllllll Patrick. Ironically, the best part of Patrick’s plot was when all the customers were taking turns smashing “Plankton” inside the Krusty Krab as the little guy was trying to run off with the Krabby Patty recipe.

A solid start to the week-long of premieres, though I gotta say, I was a bit underwhelmed by the “color Spongebob” deal Nick was doing. I mean, a few months after Bob’s Burgers did a whole episode that was fan-made, having different colored Spongebobs only in the main title sequence is kinda “meh”. Perhaps if fans got a chance to draw the whole episode, THAT would be cool, but I don’t get the sense of Nickelodeon’s genuine interest in unique art from its fans, even with the drawings showing up between episodes.
