Review: Kirby Buckets “Torched”

I’m torched, but in a different way.

Spoilers Below

Sprint Phillips is in town and Kirby wants to show him a good time all the while Fish and Eli fawn over the kid’s torch-bearing abilities. Unfortunately, Kirby’s jerk friends want to protect Sprint from any exploitation from Kirby as he attempts to promote his cartoon channel, but Sprint seems like a cool kid and decides to take Kirby up on his offer to wear a t-shirt promoting Kirby’s brand. After a night of partying, the kids wake up the next morning to find Spring deciding to screw sports and have fun.

While Dawn is hunting down Sprint for stealing her ridiculous shirt, Eli and Fish have to stall the torch bearer ceremony long enough so that Kirby can find Sprint whom is off inspiring everyone in town. We come to find out he’s with Big Ricky as a hostage, so now Kirby’s gotta go find him before Ricky eats the kid.

Kirby gets Sprint back from Ricky where we also learn that Belinda isn’t from America despite her dress. Before any harm is done, Sprint is able to take part in the torch-bearing deal despite all obstacles. Dawn gets turned down by some dude for not getting her shirt back.

Our Take

It’s been a while since we’ve checked in on Kirby, and I think this was a good time to do it. I particularly liked both the Sprint Phillips kid and the ventriloquist dummy and think that they should even replace Eli and Fish as regular cast members.

Dawn and Belinda were sort of a waste, but overall a solid episode featuring a strong performance from a first-timer that really seems like a good kid. Plus, I guarantee Sprint Phillips can run faster than I ever could. Speaking of which, let’s get rid of Ricky, too.
