Review: Hotel Transylvania: The Series “Fright of Hand; Dude Where’s My Garlic?”

Mmmmm….garlic.

Overview (Possible Spoilers Below)

“Fright of Hand”

Mavis Studies Magic in an effort to entertain the Hotel Staff & Guests with a Magic show when the Octopus Magician “Octavio” leaves out of fear of Lydia. Mavis does her best to keep them entertained but the magic slowly backfires when Mavis accidentally makes Lydia’s pet chicken “Diane” disappear but doesn’t know how to undo the spell, forcing Mavis to seek out Octavio for a solution.

“Dude Where’s My Garlic?”

Mavis gets curious about Garlic when Garlic Seeds are accidentally mailed to Chef Quasi and during a mishap, a Garlic seed somehow gets into the vents and grows plants in the cracks of the Hotel much to Mavis & Lydia’s Horror. With the Hotel on lockdown for a week until all of it is extracted, Mavis, Lydia, and the Hotel’s Monster inhabitants stay in the Cartwright’s unsupervised household for a week while Mavis attempts to cover her tracks by destroying the Garlic seeds with Wendy & Quasi’s help.

We eventually learn what happens when Vampires eat Garlic in this show’s Universe and while it doesn’t kill Vampires, it still has hilariously negative consequences.

Our Take

The Primary focus of “Fright of Hand” was mostly spent on Mavis attempting to keep Lydia entertained so she can approve future parties in the Hotel to keep their business booming. The Episode kinda ended on an ok note, but I mostly laughed at the ending as it found a way to even make Diane Funny.

The Humor of the latter episode “Dude Where’s My Garlic?” comes from the Monster’s ignorance about modern human conveniences and conventional objects but the twist of how Garlic Affects Vampires in the show’s universe at least gave me a good chuckle as even I didn’t expect it.

In a nutshell, Both episodes were a slight improvement compared to Stop or My Mummy Will Shout where I was left infuriated by its stupidity.
