Review: Hotel Transylvania the series ‘Breakfast at Lydia’s/The Trouble with Wendys’

Hotel Transylvania the series isn’t necessarily a classic. But it’s an endearing series with pleasant animation, likable characters, and fun plot lines. “Breakfast at Lydia’s” and “The Trouble with Wendys” derive their names from classic films Breakfast at Tiffany’s and The Trouble with Angels.

In “Breakfast at Lydia’s,” Mavis (Bryn McAuley) is an employee of the month at the hotel. However, the chef quits and Aunt Lydia (Dan Chameroy) takes her breakfast seriously. Unfortunately, Mavis fears that Aunt Lydia might revoke her employee of the month title. So to cover, Mavis gets Pedro (Joseph Motiki) to cook instead. In a surprise move, Lydia actually enjoys it. The chef opens a food truck, but Mavis bribes him to come back.

In “The Trouble with Wendy,” Wendy (Evyn Rosen) gets gum on herself during a race through the hotel. I like this entry, as there’s an ironic “How are you so lucky?” from Mavis before discovering the gum on Wendy. Additionally, this segment of the episode features Pedro, Mavis, Wendy, and Hank (Gage Munroe) more prominently. Overall, it’s a solid pair of Hotel Transylvania shows. Once again, voice acting is top-notch, visuals are campy and enjoyable, and the story lines though nothing out of the ordinary, are entertaining.
