REVIEW: BLACK DYNAMITE: TAXES AND DEATH OR GET HIM TO THE SUNSET STRIP

Spoilers Below

Them IRS ain’t no joke, when you owe them money they will make sure they get it…or smoke yo’ ass tryin’. Look no further than Black Dynamite of whom owes about $60,000 in back taxes and as such has the Internal Revenue Service gunnin’ for him to get their cash. To try and make a little extra cash, Black takes up escorting Richard Pryor to his upcoming gigs. Eventually, the duo ends up spending a night in jail, but when they get out Richard speeds off in a money truck with money that was supposed to go to Dynamite to help him pay out his debt!

To try and find Richard Pryor, they go to Paul Mooney’s house to  ascertain information as to his whereabouts but instead turns them onto a path that leads to a dead end. Soon enough, Dynamite finds Pryor in a back alley telling jokes to a bunch of homeless folk, but they both have to take off running because the Chinese are on their asses for a gambling debt that Richard owes. Thankfully, Dynamite is able to get Richard to the Sunset Strip, and like normal Pryor he sets the house…on…fire! He pays Dynamite his due to the IRS, but unfortunately the Kung Fu Master has State and Local taxes to get through next!

Death and Taxes…the only two things certain in life. But, Dynamite knows how to put on the laughs while avoiding both! I really enjoyed the ode to stand-up comedy this week around by not only referencing Richard Pryor but also the great Paul Mooney! The action was again off-kilter even if it was scant as compared to last week, and a murky plot keep “Taxes and Death” from being anything special. Now, if you’ll excuse me I have to go and file my taxes.
