Review: Adventure Time “Elements Part 2: Bespoken For”

Try not to laugh at Ice King while he’s asking about pay arrangements over dinner.

Ice King tells a story to Finn and Jake all about this time that he was asked out on a date by Betty. Her mission was to try and help Ice King remember a time when he was Simon, so she recreates memories from his past life to do just that, but nothing really seems to jog his mind. Tiny Manticore recommends to Betty that she try not referring to Ice King as Simon which seems to work until Betty gets kidnapped by Patience St. Pim who also has Princess Bubblegum, Flame Princess, and Slime Princess under her control. Ice King barely make it out of harm’s way.

Our Take

In terms of the overall arc, the episode really only provides for a couple of key scenes, but my favorite thing about Ice King episodes is Ice King. The character is hilariously well-written and has so many good lines in this episode that I can’t stand it. It’s adorable as hell seeing him get all excited and worked up over a date, and then after it fears about the consequences of being in a committed relationship. The plot was pretty compelling, especially at the end there, and now we’re officially underway with “Elements”.
