NYCC2017 Recap: RWBY Panel

These NYCC RWBY updates were a doozy…

Friday afternoon, on October 6th. Rooster Teeth took the stage at the NYCC Madison Square Garden event of their RWBY panel. which started around 2 pm ET.

Much of the cast took the stage and included the head-writers Miles Luna & Kerry Shawcross along with the voices of the Team RWBY such as Ruby Rose (Lindsay Jones), Weiss Schnee (Kara Eberle), Blake Belladonna (Arryn Zech), and Yang Xiao Long (Barbara Dunkelman).

Here’s the full panel:

Primarily it began by showing off new merchandise in the form of a newly licensed McFarlane toy of Ruby Rose’s updated look from Vol. 4 and 5.

The new manga will come out in hard copy from Viz next year — January of 2018.

The “RWBY: Combat Ready” board game has reportedly reached its Kickstarter goal with 24 Days remaining and will have an updated Deck based on the Villain and White Fang Commander Adam Taurus alongside the Crimelord, Roman Torchwick.

Two images have been released from Vol.5 with one of them featuring Yang and the other of Team RNJR accompanied by Qrow at Haven Academy.

The voice cast also did a video interview from “Build Series” which can be viewed below:

The poster for Vol.5 has been released which shows Raven, Oscar, Qrow, and Cinder taking center stage along with the big announcement that Vol.5 has upped its episode count from 12 to 14 this season.

The upcoming video game, BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle has finally released Ruby Rose gameplay footage which not only shows her beautifully animated 2D sprite but the song “Red like Roses Part.2” for her BGM and Lindsey Jones providing her voice is also a nice touch.

Given that this is an early build of the game, there are empty character slots in the RWBY section of the select screen which leaves lots of possibilities for more RWBY characters to make the cut.

And finally, Rooster Teeth is hyping up Vol.5 in the form of scheduled Twitch streams of all four volumes. So if you need to know the specific schedules and links to catch up on episodes & volumes in advance before the premiere, click here.

Our Take.

This is how you hype a fan base! I’m hoping many questions will have clear answers in Vol.5 instead of leaving us hanging like most of the Vol.4 did in regards to several characters. If Team RWBY does get back together I predict it’ll have an ugly start given the previous drama from volumes 3 and 4. The 2D sprite animations of her movements and mannerisms are pretty damn spot-on for Ruby in Cross Tag Battle and I hope to see more characters make the cut as Arc System Works never disappoints in breathing new life into 2D animation.

RWBY Vol.5 will premiere October 14th on Rooster Teeth.
