New Report: Hulu/Netflix edging out HBO?
How much does it cost to keep HBO as part of your cable/satellite package? Next time you get your bill…check that. Because there could be a better solution for you right in front of you and maybe like me you never realized it. Check that because according to a new report from Deadline.com by way of the NPD group, Netflix and Hulu subscriptions are starting to shave off a bit of the subscriber base for premium TV content like HBO, Starz, and Showtime.
These numbers are no laughing matter, neither as premium TV subscriptions dropped down 6 points to only 33% of American households keeping that as part of their cable/satellite channel packages. Alternatively, subscriptions to more affordable internet channels like Netflix and Hulu are up a couple of points to 27% with Netflix taking the lionshare of THAT market with a 90% stranglehold on the industry. That said, Hulu and Amazon Prime are starting to inch up ever so slightly as both internet channels start to pick up more and more original content.
