APAC: New Puppet Show From “Sammy J And Randy” Star Coming To Melbourne Fringe
Let’s see what the creator of Sammy J And Randy has got cooking.
The Melbourne Fringe Festival will host the latest project from the man behind the fuzzy purple half of acclaimed Aussie duo Sammy J and Randy this September. Described as a dark comedy, Birds on Sticks reunites puppeteer Heath McIvor with his old mate Sammy J, who will be working behind the scenes as a director.
In addition to writing the show, McIvor will star alongside Alex Papps, best known from his years on the Australian kids show Play School (hopefully his performance will have the same tongue in cheek tone as the adults only show The Wiggles played last year). The story has the potential for plenty of digs at the duo’s previous work based on the summary provided by Melbourne Fringe:
On the eve of a tour to the middle of nowhere, two disgruntled puppeteers look back on their career choices and ponder where it all went so horribly wrong.
McIvor’s previous work as Randy at comedy festivals worldwide and on Australian TV (seriously ABC, can we get another season of Ricketts Lane already?) gives hope that the puppetry will be hilarious and cleverly incorporated.
Birds on Sticks will be playing from September 23rd-30th at North Melbourne’s Lithuanian Club. Tickets are available via the Melbourne Fringe website.
Hi Ashley, thank you so much for reading and we love the feedback. Note that on that day we had 14th posts go up and only ten posts show on the front page, so it's possible the preview had already been archived by the time you got to it. One recommendation would be to add our RSS feed to your favorite news aggregator service like Feedly, this way you get all of the latest posts!
