Netflix Greenlights “Disenchantment” Starring 90% of the “Futurama” Cast

Which begs the question…why hasn’t Netflix picked up Futurama yet?

Netflix has announced that they’ve ordered 20 episodes of a brand-new Matt Groening adult animated comedy fantasy series co-produced called Disenchantment.

In Disenchantment, viewers will be whisked away to the crumbling medieval kingdom of Dreamland, where they will follow the misadventures of hard-drinking young princess Bean, her feisty elf companion Elfo, and her personal demon Luci. Along the way, the oddball trio will encounter ogres, sprites, harpies, imps, trolls, walruses, and lots of human fools.

Disenchantment will premiere on Netflix ten episodes at a time, starting in 2018 and will feature the voice talents of Abbi Jacobson (“Bean”), Nat Faxon (“Elfo”) and Eric Andre (“Luci”), along with John DiMaggio, Billy West, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille, David Herman, Matt Berry, Jeny Batten, Rich Fulcher, Noel Fielding, and Lucy Montgomery. Animation is being done by Rough Draft Studios (Futurama). The series is produced by The ULULU Company for Netflix, with Matt Groening and Josh Weinstein (The SimpsonsFuturama) serving as executive producers.

Our Take

Do you know what all these bolded names have in common? Take a guess…ok fine I’ll spoil it. It’s THE CAST AND CREW OF FUTURAMA!

Don’t get me wrong, I am now very much looking forward to Disenchantment, however, why wouldn’t Netflix do this exact same deal with the producers and cast of Futurama? Granted, the producers are kinda working on something else right now, but you can’t tell me this show can’t be renewed. With 20 million fans on Facebook, Netflix is missing out on a huge opportunity.

Ok, ok. About Disenchantment. Nat Faxon’s slowly turning into a dependable voice actor as he’s in the upcoming Highly Gifted web series AND in this show. Also, Eric Andre is turning into my favorite comedic personality right now. Have you seen him in Popstar? Nearly steals the entire film.
