More Trouble For Bongo Comics? Co-Founder Bolts To “MAD”

Uhhhhh-ohhhhhhhh.

For decades Bongo Comics has been giving us comic book adaptations of The Simpsons, Futurama, and other franchises, but 2017 has NOT been kind to the company founded by Matt Groening. One-shot comics featuring popular characters from The Simpsons as well as Futurama c0mics were at both one point available in physical comics retailers but now have become digital comics exclusives leaving just The Simpsons for physical distribution. Last year, we saw the cancellation of Bart Simpson Comics come to pass as well, and so far I haven’t seen other Bongo mainstays like the Simpsons Comics Wingdings release this year.

There’s more. THR is reporting that Bongo Comics co-founder (along with Matt Groening) Bill Morrison will become the executive editor of MAD magazine, the latter of which is moving to Los Angeles after decades of living in NYC. Current MAD editor John Ficarra will stay on through the end of the year while Bill’s responsibilities starting in 2018 will include directing the day-to-day operations of the magazine, overseeing the MAD editorial staff for both MAD magazine and MAD books, and managing the development and implementation of the annual publishing schedule.

While this is GREAT news for MAD, this spells trouble for the future of Bongo Comics. Later this week, Matt Groening will be taking part in a Reddit AMA, maybe we can get some answers then.
