Late ‘Simpsons’ Co-Creator Sam Simon’s Memorabilia, Art Going to Auction

Sam Simon led a very philanthropic life. Despite passing away at age 59 in March, the Simpsons co-creator just keeps on giving.

Simon’s entire personal collection of memorabilia and art – some 260 items – will go to auction, Sotheby’s announced yesterday. The lot is expected to fetch between $7.7 million and $11.5 million in 11 different “various-owner” auctions between September 19th and June of 2016.

Aside from major Simpsons items like a pinball machine, jacket, and pinup art, Simon’s art collection will also hit the block, which includes an August Rodin sculpture of the French writer Balzac (estimated to be worth $350,000) and a Thomas Hart Benton painting of a boy and his dog ($1.5 million – $2.5 million).

“Each piece in Sam Simon’s collection embodies a central theme: The ability of art to tell a story,” said Andrea Fiuczynski, chairwoman of Sotheby’s West Coast.

Of course all proceeds will go charity, specifically the Sam Simon Charitable Giving Foundation, which supports animal welfare and disaster relief, among other causes.

“I’m supporting the charities that I supported during my lifetime,” Simon said in 2013. “And I want to continue to do that.”
