FOX’s ADHD goes from late-night to prime-time/Hulu

After being jerked around for the better part of the month as to when the hell Axe Cop and Stone Quackers was going to return, FOX finally issues an update to The Hollywood Reporter that FOX will be promoting FOX ADHD from late-night Saturday Nights to prime-time Sunday Nights in 2015.

Now, 2015 is a long ways away and I know that a lot of past favorites like Lucas Bros., Axe Cop, and Golan are indeed in production for second seasons. Now, I think Axe Cop is still returning this year, because the FOX ADHD abandonment of Saturday Nights doesn’t happen until June 28th and Creative Director of Fox ADHD and show creator of Stone Quackers, Ben Jones, is still slated to do a Reddit AMA later this afternoon so he should provide some answers in terms of the near-future returns. However, it looks like when Lucas Bros and Golan return this Fall, it will do so on Hulu.

Inside sources tell me that the banned from broadcast episode of High School USA! was quietly posted and did 200,000 views in like a week before Hulu took it down (haven’t checked if the episode has returned). Without even knowing this, FOX may have inadvertently created a litmus test to see if original content can thrive on an online network, and as a result could have helped the decision making process in figuring out what to do with ADHD which was a block of television seen to be TOO edgy for FOX-TV affiliates hence the move.

Hulu is a natural home for FOX ADHD original content, and given the success of Hulu original animated programming like The Awesomes plus the fact that FOX owns a minority stake in Hulu coupled with the fact that whenever the online network makes money so does the broadcasting company, this is a win-win for all parties involved…including me and you.

Why? Well, despite the fact that Hulu usually bleeps out naughty words in its programming, the online destination still had the balls to stream the aforementioned High School USA! episode after FOX legal decided it was too crass for TV. Yesterday, we told you guys that the PTC was complaining about a FOX ADHD short! Having Hulu be the new destination for FOX ADHD will allow us to enjoy more content the way nature intended which should provide for more artist-driven content.

FOXADHD.com and the corresponding Youtube network will still be popular destinations to get gifs, shorts, and Instavines. But, we still have questions. Like will content get to run on Hulu AND FOXADHD.com? In the past, after new episodes of ADHD would air on FOX, the very next morning you had them available for perusing on the website.

Additionally, FOX ADHD is producing TWO NEW animated series that have already been green-lighted for prime-time in 2015. Right now, we don’t know if these are brand-new shows or if these are 30-minute episodes of past fanfare like Axe Cop. The fact that FOX has new ADHD content coming for Sunday Nights also raises more questions like:

Does this mean Cosmos is cancelled and that FOX will put cartoons back on at 9 pm giving us an additional hour of original content? Or does this mean SOMETHING on the Animation Domination lineup is being cancelled? As of now, we are expecting new seasons of Bob’s Burgers, The Simpsons, Family Guy, and now Bordertown all to start up this Fall. Furthermore, what does this mean for the development of other shows that FOX has been touting? Animated shows from 50cent and othershave already been announced for development, so do those shows now go away in the face of the ADHD pickups?

Finally, what does this mean for the late-night 11 pm slot? Does Adult Swim see this hour as their’s for the taking? Would the network consider airing original content giving a destination for all of the fans that got used to watching cartoons on Saturday Nights? Perhaps Adult Swim expands Toonami another hour? Obviously, all of these questions need answering, and we’ve got the best cartoon reporters in the biz looking into it!
