EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Steve Dildarian creator/voice for “The Life and Times of Tim”

Ahhhhh yes…Fridays. No, not the restaurant, I mean like end of the work week. Its great for some of my favorite activities like drinking, ordering pizza, and starting this Friday @ 9pm EST on HBO the RETURN of The Life and Times of Tim!! After the jump, check out a quick Q & A I did with the creator/writer/director of Life and Times Mr. Steve Dildarian who also is the voice of our hero Tim, as he gives us a few tidbits on both his character, as well as a few hints of what to expect for Season 3! JUMP ALREADY!

In 2006, an advertising copywriter from East Brunswick, NJ named Steve Dildarian created a best-in-class animated short entitled Angry Unpaid Hooker for the US Comedy Arts Festival(now known as The Comedy Festival, and is a HUGE event held in Las Vegas, NV with some of the biggest celebrities in stand up including the likes of Jerry Seinfeld, Dane Cook, and more). Its this animated short, that would later form the basis from which The Life and Times of Tim is based on, which is now entering its third season on HBO. In seasons’ past we’ve followed the stories of Tim who is a normal guy that always seems to end up on the short end of the stick for this thing we call life and this season is no different. Read on as Steve Dildarian drops some hints as to what we can expect this coming season.

John Blabber: Hey Steve, first question, you being a guy that is from NJ, when you write for Tim, do you draw from personal situations when putting together plot, settings, etc?

Steve Dildarian: Almost never. If this was actually based on my life, I would have been in jail a long time ago, and I certainly wouldn’t have a girlfriend.

JB: How close is Tim’s personality to that of yours?

SD:His point of view on life is very much mine, but there are big differences too. Tim is a bit of a pushover when receiving advice, but I don’t know too many people who would describe me that way.

JB: If Tim were real, would you say that he is depressed? Or do you think he’s not too different from the normal everyday guy?

SD:He’s not depressed at all. He’s just an average guy who’s becoming more and more exasperated by how the world conspires against him.

JB: So let’s talk about season 3, can you divulge on a few synopses for some of the episodes this season?

SD: Some highlights: 1. Tim helps a middle-aged superintendent start a new career as a gay prostitute. 2. Tim encourages a 13-year-old boy to get a tattoo under his balls. 3. Tim returns to the golf course where he once worked, and ends up killing one of the caddies.

JB: You guys have always had wonderful guest voices come on the show (my personal favorites being Cheri Oteri and Will Forte) are you allowed to mention any guests for this upcoming season?

SD: Lots of great ones. Rob Corddry, Penny Marshall, Bill Dee Williams, Bob Saget, Paul Scheer, Marc Maron Tim Meadows, and many more.

The Life and Times of Tim Season 3 premier happens this Friday night on HBO @9:00pm EST and in this week’s episode entitled “The Model From Newark; Tim’s Hair Looks Amazing” Tim finds work as an assistant to a women’s professional-basketball player; and decides he needs a haircut for job interview. Take a look at this clip to see what kind of bullshit Tim has to put up with for Season 3!
