English Dub Review: Seven Mortal Sins “Love Your Enemies and Pray for Those Who Persecute You”

Two episodes left after this one so lets do this!

The episode begins when the white-clad Lucifer, accompanied by the Demonic plushie “Behemoth”, proceeding to further circumnavigate their way down the circles of Hell. As this is going on, The rest of the episode drags on a bit as Belial confronts the rogue “Seven Sins” and subjects them to BDSM-Style punishments that seem both karmic & befitting of the respective sins they each represent for their defiance against Belial. During these punishments we see a series of retconned flashbacks revealing that Belial wasn’t even her real name at all, And much like Lucifer she was once an Angel, But Unlike Lucifer Belial slowly made a name for herself by using the “Byrnedale” family Alias to gain the trust of the titular Sins before the events of episode 1.

With each circle of Hell she travels down to, Lucifer eventually encounters a few of her newly formed allies and wishes to help them in some way but despite Lucifer’s kind offer, most of the titular sins come to a collective agreement that they must ride out their punishments tied to their sins as a “final purge” of their former ties with Belial and also as acceptance for siding with Lucifer since many of the previous episodes were spent on Lucifer winning them over to her side after defeating them in some form or another.

We also learn that Maria is held prisoner by Belial and that she plans to use her to power up her “Dainsleif” and discovers that Lucifer secretly used Maria to transfer Angel-Blood to her after the Heart-Ritual Lucifer performed on her in Episode 2. However, by the time Lucifer reaches the main palace of the Seven Sins at the 9th Circle, Lucifer ends up putting herself at risk by beating Ice Giants and is now nearly drained of power, giving Belial a distinctive advantage and the episode ends in cliffhanger fashion when Lucifer falls exhausted from her battle while Belial declares premature victory.

Our Take.

We’re two episodes away before the series ends and already the Protagonist is at a sheer disadvantage. The art & animation are excellent if you can get past the obvious sex jokes & innuendos, Some scenes dragged out a bit in terms of pacing and the twist with Belial conspiring with Heaven to destroy Earth & Hell for sinning is compelling yet we still don’t know who she’s supposed to be given that it’s only explained that she was once an Angel herself like Lucifer.

Let’s see if we’ll get more answers next week.
