English Dub Review: Konohana Kitan “Spring Journey”

The Yuri is strong in this episode of Konohana Kitan.

With a show filled to the brim with cute foxgirl characters and little to no men around it’s the perfect setting for some Yuri love. Yuri being the slang term for yuri hentai involving two or more females. Now, of course, nothing too sexual has happened but with how the relationship has blossomed between main diamond mouth Yuzu and brooding Satsuki in today’s episode you can start seeing where the show is heading. Whether it be romantic or a big and little sister relationship remains to be seen.

OVERVIEW

But this is all set around the duo getting a day off of work and just deciding to go into town. It’s as simple a story as that but it allows for a lot of simple cute relationship building scenes. Allowing the animation and dialogue to grow each of their characters so we get more facets of their personas. The episode’s strongest attribute is its relationship between Yuzu and Satsuki and I feel the writing really makes that strong. However, the show fumbles in smoothly wrapping that up, as the relationship of the two is sidelined for a completely superfluous detour and that detour is resolved in a hand-wavy fashion. It was just too abrupt for an episode that was already exhibiting such a top rate connection between Yuzu and Satsuki.

OUR TAKE

There really isn’t a lot to go over other than that. I could mention the episode’s rather blunt use of crossfade animation at the end looking embarrassingly out of place. There is no need to though. Well, maybe a bit as with more refined animation some of the scenes could be beautiful and blend seamlessly with the heartfelt writing. For what we have I say it is worth a viewing for anyone interested in just a cute yuri romance.
