English Dub Review: KADO: The Right Answer “Yukika”

KADO: The Right Answer continues its epic finish with another hit in “Yukika.” Kojiro Shindo (Ian Mead Moore) confronts Yaha-Kui zaShunina (Jason Liebrecht) in a special suit crafted to that he can fight zaShunina. Saraka Tsukai (Mikaela Krantz) joins Shindo in facing off against zaShunina.

Meanwhile, Kado begins enveloping the Earth. It almost looks like the blob from 1987 The Blob film (one of the finest remakes ever made). zaShunina invites, even begs, Shindo to come with him to the anisotropic. However, Shindo declines the invite.

It’s neat hearing zaShunina beseech Shindo in coming to the anisotropic. His arguments clearly posit that he doesn’t want to destroy humanity, merely assimilate it into the anisotropic for study. This kind of reminds me of the concept in Roadside Picnic, with the communication disconnect between beings of different intelligence and advancement.

There are hints of a deeper relationship between Shindo and zaShunina. The episode concludes with a major twist. What began as a slow simmer of a show erupted into a tour de force of surprises.

I like the insane trip of happenings. At the onset, I was unclear where KADO was going. It’s finale really shocked me, and the final few episodes are a bit crazy. It’s an intriguing wackiness though. The animation is on point. Similarly, music is at its best. But the end sort of jumps the shark. It’s a muddle string of techno-speak. Kind of like reading Dune (no disrespect to the classic novel, one of my favorite books), without the benefit of the glossary in the back. Additionally, it gets a bit too sentimental. The ending does a quick 180 and squeezes in a happy ending that doesn’t feel natural.

But nevertheless, KADO is pretty fascinating both visually and with its plot. The characters are likable, and the score is captivating. Most of all, I appreciated the plot which completely threw me off in “Yukika.” I did not predict how the show would conclude. It’s this which makes the KADO: The Right Answer so memorable and powerful, especially “Yukika.”
