English Dub Review: Dragon Ball Super “A Decision at Last! Is the Winner Beerus? Or Is It Champa?”

Do we have a winner?

Overview (Spoilers Below)

The episode starts off with the sheer force of Goku’s Kamehameha that was aimed at hit causes everyone watching the tournament to hold on to their dear lives when the Dome is broken until Whis & Vados manage to fix the Dome again and save everyone. After Goku & Hit reveal to be both alive, Hit continues his battle against Goku with a series of attacks which knocks Goku out of Kaio-Ken aura, Until Goku regains it back knocking Hit back with an equally hard strike that sends Hit flying. And despite the intensity of their battle, there’s a level of mutual respect when they bump fists in a friendly manner.

Hit and Goku have a little convo in their heads saying how they’re glad they met each other as this experience alone is making them improve their skills. They continue to intensely fight until Goku asks Beerus to get remove of the rules so that Hit could attack him to his fullest given that the tournament has a “No-Killing” rule. Beerus, of course, turns down Goku’s request and argues with Champa leading which becomes an Impetus for Goku to purposely lose by jumping out of the arena saying it wouldn’t be fair to fight like this but hopes to battle him another time. When Hit is declared the winner, Goku’s use of the Kaio-Ken mixed with SS Blue begins to take it’s toll as he starts suffering from muscle contractions putting Goku in intense pain while Monaka is next to be the final opponent against Hit much to Beerus’s apprehension.

As Goku leaves to recover, The match between Hit & Monaka is both hilarious and extremely short as it only takes one punch from Monaka for Hit to purposely lose but understandably, Hit is quick to figure out what’s actually going on and plays along to help Spare Universe 7’s Earth from being ruled by Champa out of spite towards Champa for calling Goku & Hit “Pawns”. With Beerus’s Universe 7 team becoming the winners, Champa, of course, obnoxiously handles it like a sore loser who decides to punish his “Universe 6” team but before doing so, The episode ends when a short being named “Grand Zen-Oh” shows up and his mere presence alone terrifies the shit out of both Beerus & Champa.

Our Take

After one of the greatest Goku battles in recent memory, It’s exactly like Goku’s proverbial hard-on for combat to keep the fight on even ground when he requested Beerus & Champa the removal of the tournament rules, but at least he knew that the after-effects of the Kaio-Ken would become predictably detrimental. Hit’s easily one of the best new characters because, for a Hitman who barely talks, I never expected Toriyama to make him this damn likable. Also, Hit purposely losing to Monaka was pretty damn funny. And finally, Grand Zen-Oh must be someone of extreme importance if Beerus & Champa fear him because ironically, they’re usually the ones who instill fear.
