English Dub Review: Brave Witches “Big Sister and Little Sister”

Little sister, can’t you find another way?

Brave Witches episode “Big Sister and Little Sister finds Takami finally waking from her coma. The Witches are sent on a new mission, Operation Freyja, where there’s a massive railgun for use against the Neuroi nest Grigori.

Takami reveals that she’s been transferred to her post in Kauhava. Meanwhile, Hikari continues to struggle to display her skill. Moreover, she copes with being transferred out of the Brave Witches now that her sister is back. The formerly destroyed Neuroi Waltrud has mysteriously come back to life. Additionally, Hikari challenges Takami in deciding which sister will remain in the Brave Witches. Takami ends up barely winning.

“Big Sister and Little Sister” is an interesting episode. I like seeing Hikari and Takami competing. This really shows how far Hikari has progressed. But overall the episode isn’t all that exciting. Instead, it’s a bit predictable. The series just doesn’t seem to progress all that fast. The drama that arises appears to whisk away simply. Plus, too much of the series dwells on Hikari’s struggle to prove her worth. I’d prefer a bit more about the Neuroi and

I’d prefer a bit more about the Neuroi. Still, there’s a bit of neat lore. The Neuroi core has a small actual core which allows regeneration. I enjoyed this element and the exploration of the Neuroi. Takami reams her sister out and tells Hikari that she doesn’t belong with the Brave Witches. I was a bit surprised by this. It’s unclear whether this is jealousy or concern. Or a bit of both. Aside from that, most of the episode is pretty predictable and a bit trite. Ultimately, it’s not necessarily a poor episode, it’s also just not anything to write home about.
