Creator confirms that the next three seasons of “Archer” will be the show’s last

Well, this sucks.

It was announced a couple of months back that a three season, 24-episode run of Archer had been ordered to premiere on FXX starting in 2017. Well, now we can confirm that those 24 episodes will effectively be the last for the franchise.

Show creator Adam Reed confirmed as such when he visited the Murmur podcast and that season eight was almost the show’s final season before he came up with a few more ideas.

“The plan is to end Archer after season 10. I don’t know that anybody has talked about that, but that is definitely my plan to do 8, 9 and 10 — and they’re gonna be each shorter seasons of just eight episodes — and then wind it up. I was gonna end it after 8, but then I had sort of a brain explosion of a way that I could do three more seasons and really keep my interest up. So the three seasons that are coming up are gonna be pretty different from what has come before, and they’re gonna be different from each other.”

I’ll be curious to see what Adam does next. Perhaps take another stab at Cassius & Clay? Or could another project entirely be on the horizon for the creator of such classic franchises as Frisky Dingo, Sealab2021, and others? We’ll have to see how the next three seasons of one of FX’s longest-running franchises pans out.
