Comics Review: Rick and Morty #33

We get SO close to another perfect issue.

Again, Summer is the star of this month’s issue that sees her travel to an alternate universe where Beth is sober and only has one kid, as a result, Summer got all the attention growing up and a boat-load of confidence to be who she wants to be to boot. As a result, Summer has become quite popular in this timeline and is on the brink of a long-term relationship. This all sounds great on paper, but then Summer realizes that it isn’t her and opts to go home.

“The Rick Identity Part Two”

Summer might still be in Morty’s body (read issue #31 for more context).

Our Take

This month’s issue is a case of, “what if the original story were longer and the second strip wasn’t thrown in there?”.

Welp, I think we could’ve been on to another Summer issue that’s as solid as #30 and #32, but instead, the main strip was just a tad too underdeveloped. I would’ve really liked to have seen Summer spend more time in her alt universe and maybe see how her relationship would’ve flourished/suffered. Also, both comics were encroaching on LGBTQ concepts for Summer/Morty that I think could’ve been a lot of fun to delve into further. Take chances, people!

But, I can’t complain, this comic is gonna win an award from us on Sunday, and that’s that.
