The reports on Marvel’s cel-shaded animated series What If? are starting to come about ahead of it’s August 2021 premiere. Ten episodes are on the way to Disney+ in what will be the streamer’s closest attempt at an original adult animated series since it’s launch (no they aren’t planning a Star Wars adult animated series despite silly reports). The franchise is slated to have the pathos of the MCU feature-films according to a report from Total Film magazine, and according to another report from MCU Direct, some storylines we can expect include Peggy Carter becoming Captain America and Iron Man’s suit being powered by the Tesseract.

What If…? is an upcoming American animated anthology series created by A.C. Bradley for the streaming service Disney+, based on the Marvel Comics series of the same name. It explores what would happen if major moments from the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) occurred differently. The series is produced by Marvel Studios, their first animated series since becoming their own production company. Bradley serves as head writer of the series, with Bryan Andrews directing.Jeffrey Wright stars as the Watcher, who narrates the series. Marvel Studios’ head of visual development Ryan Meinerding helped define the series’ cel-shaded animation style, which was designed to reflect the films. Half of the first season’s animation is provided by Squeeze, with Stephan Franck serving as head of animation. A second 10-episode season is in development.

The Batmobile takes centerstage in an all-new clip from Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One.

Batman (voiced by Jensen Ackles) speeds the Batmobile through the streets of Gotham City in hot pursuit of mobster Mickey Chen (Gary Chun) in this all-new clip from Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One. The clip also includes Police Captain James Gordon (Billy Burke), police officer Pearce (Gary LeRoi Gray) and Bruce Wayne’s butler Alfred (Alastair Duncan). Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, DC and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, the all-new feature-length animated film arrives on Digital & Blu-ray on June 22, 2021.

“I wanted to give the film a timeless look, kind of like the book, where you can’t pinpoint the actual time period,” said Lukic, who cited 1940s crime films and The Godfather as further inspiration for the film’s stylish, nuanced art direction. “I really set out to make Gotham City a character onto itself. All the backgrounds were thought out to have a look or feel of classic cinematography. I even shadowed most of the backgrounds myself to get the right style of lighting needed for particular scenes, and to give the film that classic noir look.”

Supervising Producer Butch Lukic gives Gotham City the full noir treatment in Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One as seen in four new images released today by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.
