Carrie Brownstein Might Want To See A Spin-Off of Portlandia’s “Rats” Bit

HBO/Animals may have some competition in the animated rats department!

In a TCA recap provided by Deadline.com, it was noted that season eight of Portlandia will be the franchise’s last go on IFC. However, when broached with the possibilities of doing spin-offs or whatever to extend the franchise, Carrie Brownstein mentioned the animated “Rats” bit that’s seen on Portlandia as a possible idea.

As great an idea as this could be, I doubt IFC would even bother. They like REALLY cheap productions, so cheap that it doesn’t require any marketing. As a matter of fact, even if the network picked up this idea, they probably would offer NO support as I’ve heard interviews with the producers of Comedy Bang! Bang!, Documentary Now!, and other franchises go on podcasts and whatnot and complain about the lack of marketing the network does about their shows. IFC used to have an excellent series called Out There, but that was canceled after one season, though the network flirted with a few ideas in the years since to no avail. Most recently, a new animated series was posted on IFC.com and you can see more about that here.
