BubbleUK: VICELAND UK Launches Nightly English-Dubbed Anime Block

VICELAND has recently found success bringing American cartoons to the UK, including the popular hit adult spy show Archer. This has fortunately inspired the channel to start airing anime shows too and the station has decided to team up with Anime LTD. to make this happen.

However, British anime fans may be eager to know which Japanese animated series will be joining VICELAND’s schedule? Well, the list includes Cowboy Bebop, Tokyo Ghoul, Tokyo Ghoul Root A, Samurai Champloo and Eureka Seven. The shows will be screened very late at night, adding to the thrill of watching adult animation from Japan.

These are some very popular anime series that have garnered loyal fanbases.

The most notable thing about them is that they’re mainly targeted towards adults, which indicates that VICELAND recognizes that mature anime does exist, and can be worked into their designated demographic. VICELAND General Manager CJ Fahey had this to say to All the Anime: “We’ve been on the look-out for a strong roster of Anime content for the channel for some time now, as a genre that we feel strongly aligns with the appetite of our inquisitive viewers and creative vision of the channel.”

I think that Shintaro Watanobe’s creations “Cowboy Bebop” and “Samurai Champloo” stand out as very wise choices when bringing anime to a Western country. Cowboy Bebop is famous for being easily marketable to Western audiences, with many anime critics recommending it as a gateway experience for newcomers to Japanese animation. While Samurai Champloo’s blend of Asian aesthetics and American hip hop, lets Newbies dip their toes into Asian culture while staying in their comfort zone a little.

With only five shows in line, can VICELAND feed anime fans on a regular basis though? Yes, these shows have plenty of episodes to air and Tokyo Ghoul’s sequel will extend it’s scheduling potential. Anime is very expensive to purchase too, so I can imagine British fans of the medium relying on VICELAND to save money. There’s also something exciting about tuning into televised anime at a specific time, a charm that not even Crunchyroll can recapture.

If you have a connection to VICELAND UK and you’re eager to bite into some juicy anime goodness, then start tuning in from July 17th at midnight.
