BUBBLE CAN Review: Two Nuts and a Richard “Candy Massacre”

Happy Halloween! Always an interesting time of year, Halloween offers a chance to celebrate fear. We dress up, he scare one another, we eat way too much junk food and we just have fun. Along with every other show, Two Nuts and a Richard also celebrated Halloween with their own episode last night. Was it worth a watch? Read on to find out.

In Episode 3 “A French exchange student is kidnapped under Jose’s watch. Also: a killer and his victim greet Julian, Alex opens his door to trick-or-treaters, and Ollie is mistaken for a killer.

This episode was decent. Compared to last week, this can both be looked at as a step forward and step back. In this episode I think we saw our main dudes doing a little more. Last week was more sitting in the radio studio. There was a bit of that this episode, but they were still out and about interacting with all of their interesting friends. The story this episode was more interesting than last week also. Having a serial killer on the loose is a fun idea and ended up creating a lot of funny situations.

The weak points of the episode are weak points I think the series is going to suffer for it’s entire run. It just seems to be the format of the show. This show has a lot of characters coming in and telling their stories as if a break between sentences is a burden. All of these different characters tell their stories in the exact same way, and Richard and the other two laugh along with the exact same laugh they give to everybody else’s story. The show seems to have a lot of diverse characters on the shelf, but they all just feel the same when on screen. They did this last week also and I gave it a pass because it had been the first episode I had ever seen of the show. But this show really can’t diversify their characters. There are a ton of different characters, but it seems they didn’t take time developing personalities.
I still can’t tell the three main dudes apart. Richard seems to be the most important because his name is in the title, but he gets about the same screen time as the other two. They are share the same personality and react the same to every situation.

Overall, this was an alright episode. There were some funny moments and the story was more interesting than last week, but that’s all that was interesting about this episode. The characters are flat and they want to get so many stories into one episode, characters feel like they’re being forced to speak without taking a breath. Hopefully these are problems that can be remedied by seeing more of the show or letting the creative team recognizing the problems and working them out.
