Broadcasters Go Digital: Turner & Snapchat; Sinclair & Nerdist/G&S

The digital/broadcasting lines are getting much blurrier.

Two interesting stories have surfaced today on Deadline regarding traditional broadcasting companies expanding efforts to get access to more digital content and/or viewers.

The first story is about Sinclair Broadcasting launching a multicast channel (so a channel that will be available over-the-air as well as Sinclair’s digital substations) called TBD featuring content packaged by The QYou that will feature content from the likes of Nerdist/Geek & Sundry, and a bunch of other content providers. The channel is really an infotainment network providing short-form content however it’s unknown what specifically will be available on these channels.

In related news, Turner Broadcasting is looking to include more original content on Snapchat that could see content from the likes of Adult Swim,  TruTV, TBS, and more of their affiliate networks. According to Deadline.com, a deal has been reached between Turner and Snap, Inc for portfolio-wide content, distribution, and advertising plus the development of original content.

Comedy Central is already doing a lot of this, but Turner Broadcasting can promise live sports. Personally, I watched half of last week’s Thursday Night football game on Twitter so I think this can be a big “get” for Snap, Inc. However the BIG question is what kind of Adult Swim content could make its way onto Snap, Inc? Could this be the return of original shows that aren’t alive anymore? Or are we talking stuff like the shelved “Carl’s Stonecold Picks of the Week?”
