Boom! signs first-look with 20th FOX

So, not only does Boom Studios have a deal in place with Cartoon Network on first-look at franchises for potential comic book spin-offs, but they have also signed a deal with 20th Century FOX TV whereby the production house gets to take a look at BOOM! franchises opting for the small screen first before anyone.

It’s possible that 20th Century FOX is trying to remain competitive with WB and Disney as both own DC and Marvel Comics respectively. This signing gives FOX access to a bunch of graphic novel franchises, but the question is, for what? FOX is getting ready to premier a DC Comics property with Gotham and I can’t imagine any property on Boom! being as big of a deal as Batman, so I’m guessing the comic publisher’s best bet is to get its properties on FX. Whether they would opt to do more animated fare ala WB and Disney or go the live action route remains to be seen.

I haven’t been crazy about FOX’s handling of comics properties as of late for either TV or movies if I’m to be honest. They pretty much screwed up a brilliant animated series adaptation of a comic with Axe Cop and the X-Men franchise goes from outstanding (Days of Future Past) to god-awful (X-Men Origins: Wolverine). And don’t even get me started with what the company has been doing with the Fantastic Four bullshit.
