Book Review: Phineas and Ferb: The Book of Doof: How to Find an Arch Nemesis and Other Evil Advice

What are the odds that this book is worth the price?

Upon first glance, I thought that The Book of Doof  going to be something like Archer’s The Ultimate Guide to Espionage and Style and Also Cocktails Ever Written. It would certainly be different, and that would be good. What we got, however, was a slightly disappointing mix of the Archer book and  Bart Simpson’s Guide to Everyday Life. However, it’s not terrible compared to the AIDS inducing Annoying Orange activity book.

The book is broken down into chapters, but there’s more pictures, lists, and activities that break everything up. There’s quizzes, lists, and even a mad lib. Disney definitely hit its target demographic with this book. Kids will eat this up as hard as they watch the show.  The book leans heavily on the good doctor’s humor.Unfortunately, this book may be a bit of a lost cause on the older fans. The book just seemed like it was trying to do a lot in each chapter. You go from an anecdote, to a top 10 list, to a comic and so on.

The comics are short, and don’t amount to much of anything. They get treated as an afterthought. Speaking of which, this is a hardcover book, but no color, except for the comics. I appreciate the fact that you’re trying to be an actual book, so, the comics aren’t really a necessary thing. The Phineas and Ferb magazine would have been great for that. Overall, I find this book pretty entertaining, because Doofenshmirtz was the only character I liked from the show. This book is a good read for your kids, if they’re fans of the show. Doofenshmirtz made this an enjoyable, albeit rather distracted read.
