Book Review: The Art of Dick Figures The Movie

It has been a little while since Dick Figures the Movie has been released on Amazon and if you haven’t seen the movie yet I beg you to do just that, especially after you read our review.

To go along with the movie, movie producers Ed Skudder and Zach Keller have put out both a soundtrack (that was awesome) and a book detailing all of the stellar art that went along with making the movie. Inside you will see rare glimpses as to the creation of the internet’s most lovable stick dudes including sketches, designs, and additional insight from the producers detailing all about the blood, sweat, and tears that were put into making this crowd-sourced feature length film.

To be quite honest, I was a bit apprehensive on the purchase because I thought the book would be not worth the $10 price tag. However, after further review I’ve noticed two things: 1) There is a Kindle version for $5 and 2) For the EXTRA $5 you get a pretty rad coffee table book that will surely start conversations. Also, anyone taking any sort of classes in animation, illustration, and the like would do due and proper in purchasing this book so that you can see how the pros do it. Also, with Christmas coming up if you are looking for a pretty rad stocking stuffer for your kid that will probably end up as bathroom reading material later (that COULD be just MY house), then this book comes in as a great idea.

At about 60 pages I wouldn’t have minded a bit more in terms of volume as perhaps maybe the guys could’ve gone a bit more detail in other areas besides art such as music and production, but overall The Art of Dick Figures the Movie packs a solid $10 punch.
