ARCHER GETS A RETURN DATE FOR FX; UNSUPERVISED GETS LIMITED RETURN

According to  a new press release sent out by FX Networks,  we should be getting brand-new episodes of both Unsupervised AND Archer.  Unfortunately, for Unsupervised fans the news isn’t all rosie as the previously reported new episodes that were going to be for a second season, will actually be used as a limited engagement type deal where starting on December 6, 2012 @ 11:30pm EST, we will get to see three new episodes of the series, but they will be considered Season 1 and after that no more episodes will be produced.

That said, we all knew Archer was definitely coming back soon and FX just announced the start date for January 17th 2013 as part of a slate of comedy that also includes the returns of Anger Management, Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell, and a new series called Legit.

Its an interesting set of developments from FX. For one, I really thought FX was going to build its animation business ala parent broadcaster FOX, but I think the success of W.Kamau kind of took them and fans by surprise. Yes, its a great show, but the premise of it is not all too dissimilar to the Colbert Report so its interesting to see the show do so well in the exact same time slot. As for Unsupervised, a season 2 would’ve been great and I think the series had some legs but I guess the ratings were the deciding factor on this one.  That said, here comes ARCHER!! Already announced story lines for the popular animated series include Malory getting hitched and a cross over with Jon Benjamin’s other series Bob’s Burgers.
